This concept is really interested because the term is very undefined. It could simply be put into the same category as most other addictions. However as stated in the tutorial that it does not cover the same basis as say drug addiction. Could it not just be put down to being human and our unique feature such as urges to play games and interact with different technologies? Does it have to be determined as an addiction? Then in that case we are then all technically addicted to our phones, computers, and obviously the Internet. However are these necessarily problematic, not really. It is only those rare cases that fall into that small percentage that is problematic and then maybe it will affect their everyday life. There is nothing wrong with enjoying yourself sometimes and everyone has his or her own way of doing it. Some watch television and some play sport, so therefore what is the direct problem with playing video games it is exactly the same concept and probably more interactive than television.
Now I’m not saying that there are some downsides to playing video games, Of course there is as there is in playing anything. Shown in that newsreel in tutorial was just an over exaggerated approach to problematic gaming. Where it could have been dealt with in a more relatable manner. However that is what parents want to see they need an escape goat and in this generation it seems to be videogames as it was television in the last.
