It’s a mans world...

The lack of female representation in video games is pretty evident. Online news articles and readings seem to use the Lara Croft representation of females in video games as the only positive. This shows that there is a definite lack of positive female representation in video games.

In an online BBC article, author  Dave Lee stated that creators of World of Warcraft suggested that the use of real names may soon be needed within their gaming forums. This then caused a massive backlash with female gamers not liking this suggested change. Female gamers liked that fact that they could be anonymous or register themselves under gender-neutral identities to avoid constant conflict with the opposite sex. One of the reasons being that males would not like knowing that they might have lost to a girl. Linking back to the lack of female representation in video games- eg with Laura Crofts Tomb Raider as being a sole example of positive reinforcement, the fact that female gamers may have limited representation may contribute to the fact that they must then too conform to male gendered/gender neutral identities in the gaming world.
