Rooster Teeth is a production company based out of Austin, Texas. You most likely will know Rooster Teeth for their award winning Machinima series Red Vs. Blue, which aired in 2003, has become synonymous with the Halo franchise and is just about to air into its 10th season this year.
Why am I blogging about Rooster Teeth? Simply because it is a very famous company in video game circles and growing out into the wider culture, both through Machinima advertising for Microsoft (Previously they did videos for the Sims 2 with 'The Strangerhood'), most recently with RvB: MIA, a Red Vs. Blue series exclusive to the Halo Way Point community site as a way of drawing attention and users.
Along with the advertisement Rooster Teeth has the 11th most subscribed to Podcast on iTunes 'The Rooster Teeth Podcast' (Formally the 'Drunk Tank') and the 26th most subscribed to youtube channel with 'Achievement Hunter', a channel based around showing people how to get X-Box achievements.
There is nothing surprising about a company having a strong online presence, but Rooster Teeth's is based around video games! From Red vs. Blue and Achievement Hunter, to Let's Play (literally watching two guys play Saints Row the Third) and Rooster Teeth Shorts; including the award winning immersion series, where they take video game concepts and see how they apply to real life. Such as, is it easy to actually drive a car in third person, below:
Rooster Teeth has been a pioneer of Mechinima; moving it into the mainstream through Red vs. Blue, has created a community of 1.15 million game enthusiasts on their website and 1.6 million on youtube and have over 850 million channel views. The company runs a games fails channel where gamers can upload funny or impressive game videos, an achievement channel and an entertainment channel called Rooster Teeth shorts (RT shorts), visit the big game events of the year (including Armageddon in NZ) and cover video game cultural events such as the Webby Awards. In my opinion they are the leading web pioneer of video games and gamer culture. So expect to see much more of these guys as calling yourself a gamer becomes more socially acceptable!
