Frustration and horror playing "Dark souls"

I am not a huge gamer. I am the first to admit that.

While a gaming fan I still am an utter novice when it comes to some games. This was proven a few days ago when I was shown a game of the name "Dark Souls". I'm fairly sure those who are more experienced will know quite a bit about this game but for those (who like me) were complete and utterly clueless about the game heres a little insight to it.

Its a role playing game and does not really seem to have a plot to it, rather players are required to gain their own interpretation of the game. The interpretation I was given is that the world in which players interact has a curse upon it and your character, who by the way is some interesting demon solider type fellow, must break it. But that was my only guess.

That is about as positive as it gets. After quickly dying over 8 times in the space of about five minutes I was rather quick to reflect that maybe I am a wee bit of a novice when it comes to gaming. Dark Souls it turns out after some initial research after my multiple deaths (by which my partner happily took the controls from me and played) it turns out is possibly one of the most difficult games on the market. And more than likely intended towards those who are more experienced gamers.

Does anyone else know of any other similar type games that are more marketed towards those with more experience? Or even games that are marketed towards those with less experience
