Hello, my name is captain tiggles and I’m a gaming addict.

Sitting in our lecture, ‘videogame addiction’ I started to stress how I may actually have a case with the addict department as we covered the first hour. As Kevin listed off the broad symptoms that a Mr. Jack Thompson wants the world to believe; I thought NAY, that can’t be me… Then we arrived into the second hour. ‘Problematic use’, what an ingenious term for I have an issue that I can’t stop. This issue is called Gran Turismo, a racing ‘simulator’ I play online with a bunch of good ol’chaps around the world. In ways of problematic use this game sinks me into deep diegetic immersion as it constantly evaluates my skill in the form of a lap time. Speaking of time, this game will laugh in your face if the day disappears as it is literally telling you to the thousandth of a second how much time you’ve spent playing. Oh how have I turned down such a path, searching for a false sense of success, all it’s doing is training you do be irresponsible behind the wheel a Mr. Thompson may ask… Well nah, I’m not in some dead end dark abyss of a virtual world. I’m much more at a virtual track day with friends I have met over the past year. People with real names and faces behind even the weirdest of online ID tags. See we always play together, drive and practice together, searching for the perfect way to set up a car a custom made track. It’s really no different to the social aspects of a sports team… Except we don’t shower together (burn).

My ‘virtual’ friends are classed the same way as my ‘real’ friends, I’ve even meet a few and guess what, There over 30! We’re just a cool bunch of guys with the same interest that involves driving a virtual car, around a virtual track to the high standard and level. The only time I can see myself as playing games with the idea of ‘problematic use’ is around exams and major study times. Any other day of the year I’m just a straight up hobbyist, so Mr. Thompson you can’t dare judge.

Besides, I still do the dishes as any cool kid would.
