The other day I bumped into an old friend of mine. When
showed me his newfandangled blackberry I wasn’t so impressed. I had a fancy
phone once and it fricken white screened on me. Ever since then I have resorted
to using shit phones that never break (nokia).
Form this point of discussion we brunched out into talking
about ethical business models. He starts talking about product life, which is
where companies manufacturer good so that the have a life expectancy, just like
people. And the product will almost certainly die. French car manufacture Peugeot
made a car which would most definitely out live its buyers, so they decided to
cut production, dicks.
The other day my xbox 360 falls over and laser burns the
disc that was inside. The oracle, video shop guy, tells me take this whole laser
burning thing, which renders the disc useless, is a fault which Microsoft has acknowledge is a problem but will do nothing
to fix.
Laser burn or ‘the ring of death’ as it has been referred to
can occur when the xbox falls over, is bumped, is moved while the disc is still
spinning, or is even subject to slight vibrations from stomping as one guitar
hero playing family discovered.
After learning all this, it seems to me that this whole
laser burn thing is one of the many ways the rich, power full companies grief
us the consumer with their cheating us out of our money with their technological
trolling. But hey at least I learnt about this on a rental game…
