Games and ownership

This article from the New Zealand Herald, depicts the actions of violence outside the gaming world. However it is not suggesting that it is the violence created by the game play and visual effects. It was the greed and tactic approaches to obtain certain virtual materials that lead to the violence outside the game. It is also very interesting that the judge considered the objects as real possessions just through the way the child treated and reacted to the virtual items.

This becomes quite disturbing, in a society of such strong consumer culture. The need and want for more things is growing. As seen through this article the need has now transpired over into the virtual world where objects and items in games are now seen as just as precious as real material items and as this article shows can lead to the same violence created from objects just laying in our house. If this continues to develop then our legal systems would have to adapt as well just like the judge did in order to prosecute the attackers. This article really shows how the young generations perceptions of goods and personal materials is changing and would be very interesting to see how this develops.
