My (limited) Perspective on Video Games

As my experience of Video Games is limited to playing The Sims once or twice on my phone, I decided to ask a few friends about their experiences of them. As young females, most my friends have hardly touched Video Games however one friend said she became quite obsessed with Grand Theft Auto, playing it almost constantly for three weeks. She mostly enjoyed killing prostitutes, stealing their money and getting chased by their pimps. She eventually had to stop playing this game as she was having violent nightmares where she was attacking and killing close family members and friends.
A few other female friends of mine have played Tekken, a PlayStation game where your character fights your opponents character. They said that they enjoy this game and occasionally play it when they have spare time.
Talking to my friends semi confirmed two of my pre existing ideas of Video Games. Firstly, not one of them had their own Video Game console , they were borrowed from brothers and boyfriends, suggesting that Video Games are more common for males to play. I also found it interesting that my female friends played games that I would associate as male games due to their violent aesthetics, music played and darker filters and colours, rather than more feminine games such as hair dressing, fashion and make up games that I would have expected them to play.
My Grand Theft Auto friend wanted me to add that you can play your own music and you can also change the radio station in stolen cars, so she could listen to Katy Perry therefore making this game more attractive to a female audience (or maybe just her).
