Up to 300 XBOX factory workers threatened to commit mass suicide in a bitter row over pay last week in China.
The row started when Foxconn – which builds Xbox 360s for Microsoft – refused its staff a pay rise. Employees were then told they could quit with a month’s pay for each year they had been there or go back to work. Many workers decided to quit, however around 300 angry workers returned to the plant and staged the rooftop protest.
In a statement, Foxconn said: “The incident was successfully and peacefully resolved. The welfare of our employees is our top priority.”
A spokesman for Microsoft added: “We take working conditions in the factories that manufacture our products very seriously. We are investigating this issue.”References:
