What I have found from this course so far is that you can convince yourself that your life has nothing to do with video games, however in truth almost everybody at some point in their lives have been interested or interacted with video games, even if it was just the Sims or Brash Bandicoot. This brings up the theory again of what makes a gamer. If we have all interacted with video games, then aren’t we all gamers? It is a form of enjoyment and falls in the exact criteria as watching television. It may not be at all productive, but stimulates our sensors and can keep some people entertained for hours. If you had asked me if I was a gamer before I had started this course I would have strongly denied and frowned upon the nature of being a gamer, where I would have generalized them as the those that sit in dark rooms alone for hours playing a pointless game. Now I see that the reason for this doesn’t have anything to do with the inability to socialize or interact with people. They instead just have an underlying determination to succeed by winning these games. The negative stereotype that has been created of those who play games may have in fact deterred others from trying and potentially enjoying video games.
