Final Fantasy Sexism

When Kevin put up the picture of Yuna from Final Fantasy X and X-2 in lecture today, it immediately reminded me of this video. Although fan-made and meant to be a joke, the fact that the girls who want to join in on the fight are rejected because "No one ever puts girls in their party" shows how the video is making a joke at the fact that the girls in the Final Fantasy games are pretty much useless...

The best example are the girls from Final Fantasy VII. You have a healer who is down-to-earth and pretty much weak, a busty (VERY busty) fighter girl. The girls of Final Fantasy fit into one of those two categories and that's it.

I am a huge Final Fantasy X fan actually but it does annoy me a bit how the girls in the game are still not as strong as the men... I mean I only have Yuna in my party because of her summoned beasts, otherwise, she's not really useful...

  1. Really? I always found that Yuna and Lulu were profoundly destructive in FFX, to the point where in the endgame they were engines of chaos.

  2. I think Lulu was the most powerful in my party by the end of X but I agree that Yuna was useless.. If all the Aeons died, her weak, running forward and whacking the monsters with her staff was really frustrating.
I think there's a third category for the final fantasy girls? The theif? yuffie in VII steals all your stuff at one point and Rikku in X can steal items from monsters during battle.
