I think I agree with you here when you point out that not all video games can come under the blame for violence within the real world.
In fact there would have to be other factors to include when looking at violence and representations of that violence within video games.
Outside factors would come into it but it is concerning to allow young people to play games that are intended for 18+.
However there is also the issue that violence is not just exclusive to those who pursue video games. Essentially we as a human society have become so desensitized to violence due to what we absorbed through the media. For example, violent acts that take place that are broadcast on mainstream media news. And furthermore, those that are directed in films such as Saw.
So how can critics claim that the fault of some high school shootings for example as based solely on what games consumers play when mainstream media itself uses violence in everyday scenarios.
